Outreach to Senior Citizens
After reviewing some of the comments received by seniors, comments such as, Covington isn't what it used to be, I knew the letter to senior citizens must hearken to the Covington of thepast. For this purpose, I believed a reference to Bernie's childhood at 1601 Greenup was sufficient. Yet, to be sure, I thought a thank you for years and years of support would remind seniors that Bernie was around during Covington's heyday; that experience would, surely, translate into wisdom and a unique ability to bring Covington back to what it once was.
Inasmuch as safety and police protection was (according to our polling) consistently a top concern among senior citizens, much attention was given to that issue. The paragraphs highlighted in red are the statements I believed would most appeal to senior citizens.
